The Shark Valley Visitor Center is one of three primary entry points into Everglades National Park. The Visitor Center is intended to introduce visitors to the park – and to the specific site — and to provide essential orientation and safety information. This exhibit project explains the ecosystem in and around the park.
Information is presented on flat panels featuring graphics and text, but these are enhanced by three-dimensional elements including a mix of tactile elements, plant and animal models, small and simple aquariums or terrariums, touch tables, or a simple natural science lab area. Exhibit elements included tactile and mechanical interactives, and interpretive graphics of multiple formats including large wall murals.
A life-like “sculpture” of an adult alligator, along with a nest and several baby alligators, was created of a durable material suitable for the outdoors and resistant to repeated touching by visitors.
